Denisse Solis

I am a library associate at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, but prefer to call myself a copy cataloger as it most accurately describes what I do. I work in technical services, spending most of my days copy cataloging books, batch loading records, and questioning the Library of Congress Subject Headings (among other things).

I received Bachelor degrees in History and Art History with a certificate in European Studies from Florida International University and will be graduating in August from the online MLIS program at Kent State University.

Since I began library school, I have been named an ARL Diversity Scholar and ALA Spectrum Scholar. These two programs sparked new interests, encouraged me to dream bigger, and introduced me to a supportive community that has shaped my career path and goals. I have a wide array of interests which include social justice, LIS programs, cataloging, library administration, special collections, outreach and engagement, and mentorship—just to name a few.

On the rare occasion that I am not thinking about libraries or librarianship, I spend my time running, traveling, napping, enjoying good food, or spending time with loved ones (especially my cat, Murphy).
